yourshop.myshoppex.io. To run it on your own domain, for example
shop.yourbrand.com or yourbrand.com, add a custom domain from Store → Domains
(/store/domains).
This page walks through the DNS setup in detail, because it is where most people get stuck.
What you need
- A domain you own, registered with any registrar: Namecheap, Cloudflare, GoDaddy, or another.
- Access to that domain’s DNS settings.
- A few minutes for DNS to propagate.
Subdomain vs. apex (root domain)
You can connect either:- Subdomain —
shop.yourbrand.com,store.yourbrand.com,www.yourbrand.com. Easier. Works on every DNS provider. - Apex / root domain —
yourbrand.com, with no prefix. Harder. This only works if your DNS provider supports ALIAS or ANAME records, or if you migrate DNS to Cloudflare.
Setup — subdomain
Step 1: Add the domain in Shoppex
- Open Store → Domains in your Shoppex dashboard.
- Click Add Your Domain.
- Type your subdomain, for example
shop.yourbrand.com. - Click Add Domain.
The CNAME sends traffic for the domain to your shop. The TXT record is the ownership code.
It proves that the domain is yours. Its name and value are unique to your domain and appear on
the card a moment after you add the domain. Use Copy to copy them exactly.
For the CNAME, use only the subdomain part as the name, for example
shop. Most DNS interfaces
append your domain automatically.
Step 2: Add both records to your DNS provider
Open your registrar’s DNS dashboard. Add the CNAME record and the TXT record exactly as shown. Save them. The SSL certificate needs no DNS record. Cloudflare validates it over HTTP after the CNAME points tocustom.myshoppex.io.
Step 3: Wait for the check
Shoppex checks the domain every hour for 3 days after you add it. To check sooner, click Check Now on the card. Each check looks at both records and the certificate together. The card shows Found or Not found yet next to each record. The domain’s status on the Domains page changes in this order:- Waiting for DNS — the records are not found yet.
- Waiting for Certificate — the records are found and the certificate is pending.
- Live — both records are found and the certificate is active. Your shop is live on the custom domain.
Setup — apex / root domain
Apex domains do not allow CNAME records, by the DNS specification. You need one of these:Option A: Migrate DNS to Cloudflare (recommended)
Cloudflare supports CNAME flattening at the root: you can put a CNAME at@ and Cloudflare
resolves it transparently. This is the cleanest solution.
- Add your domain to Cloudflare. The free plan works.
- Update your registrar’s nameservers to the two Cloudflare gives you when you add the domain.
- Once Cloudflare has the domain, follow the subdomain setup steps above. Add a CNAME at
@pointing tocustom.myshoppex.io. - Keep the CNAME on DNS only (grey cloud icon, not orange). Cloudflare proxying breaks the custom-hostname verification.
Option B: ALIAS / ANAME record at your existing DNS
Some DNS providers, for example DNSimple, NS1, easyDNS, and Hover, support ALIAS or ANAME records: a CNAME equivalent that is legal at the apex. If your provider supports it, use it the same way as a CNAME, pointing tocustom.myshoppex.io.
Option C: Use a subdomain instead
If you do not want to move DNS, or your provider does not support ALIAS, connectwww.yourbrand.com, or another subdomain, instead of the bare root. You can then configure your
DNS to redirect yourbrand.com to www.yourbrand.com. Most registrars offer this as a
simple toggle.
Multiple domains pointing at one shop
You can attach more than one domain to a single shop, for example a typo-catching alias or a regional variant. Add each one the same way, under Store → Domains. One address is the primary address. To change it, open the row menu of a live domain and click Set as Primary. Buyers who open a page on another address are sent to the primary address. Checkout and the customer portal stay on the address the buyer used.Removing a custom domain
To remove a domain, open its row menu and click Remove Domain. Buyers can no longer open the shop at that domain, and links to it stop working. Your shop stays available at its*.myshoppex.io address and at your other domains.
You cannot remove the primary address. Set another address as primary first. If you add a removed
domain again later, it goes through the same setup again.
Common pitfalls
- “Domain already registered to Shoppex.” The domain is already connected to a Shoppex shop. Open a ticket through Discord or Telegram if you believe the domain is yours.
- Cloudflare proxy turned on during verification. If the orange-cloud proxy is enabled on the CNAME, Cloudflare custom-hostname verification fails silently. Keep it grey-cloud (DNS only) until the domain is Live. You can turn the proxy on afterward, but for storefronts there is rarely a reason to.
- Checks stop after 3 days. Shoppex checks a new domain every hour for 3 days. After that the status is Not Connected and nothing is checked until you click Check Now.
- Subdomain works, apex does not. If
shop.yourbrand.comverifies butyourbrand.comdoes not, your DNS provider does not support ALIAS at the root. Use Option A or Option C above. - Apex with
Arecords pointing somewhere else. An existing A record at@that points to a different server, for example a website builder or an old host, conflicts with this setup. Delete that record before you add the ALIAS record or the CNAME flattening. - Stuck on Waiting for Certificate. The certificate is validated over HTTP, so the CNAME must
point to
custom.myshoppex.iowith the Cloudflare proxy off. Correct the CNAME, then click Check Now. There is no separate certificate record to add.
